BELTON, Texas – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor announced the hiring of Dr. Hunter Sims as Vice President for Athletics, effective June 2, 2025.
Sims currently serves as the Director of Athletics at Howard Payne University. In addition, he acts as the American Southwest Conference chair for athletic directors and the ASC football athletic director liaison. Sims also serves on the NCAA National Committee for Grants and the NCAA Division III Football Committee.
Sims originally went to Howard Payne as an assistant football coach before assuming the head coach role in 2016. He also assumed the athletic director position in the fall of 2016, serving in both capacities until November 2016.
He obtained his undergraduate degree in multidisciplinary studies from McMurry University, where he competed in football. Sims is one of just two individuals to have served as a student-athlete, coach and administrator in the American Southwest Conference. He also holds a master's degree in sport management from American Public University and earned his doctorate in higher education from Hardin-Simmons University.
Sims will replace Randy Mann who announced his retirement in November.
