PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Caitlyn Panuco, G, Gr., Howard Payne
Howard Payne guard Caitlyn Panuco turned in a big week for the Yellow Jackets, highlighted by a season-high 30-point performance at Hardin-Simmons. Panuco went 10-16 from the field (62.5%) in the contest, shooting over 80% from the free throw line. Over two games this week, she averaged 17.5 points per game. The two match ups with Hardin-Simmons were capped by a dramatic 65–63 buzzer-beater win for Howard Payne on Saturday afternoon.
Panuco leads the Yellow Jackets in scoring this season at 15.0 points per game. HPU will travel to East Texas Baptist on Tuesday, February 10 to compete against the Tigers in Marshall, Texas.
OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman-guard, Natalia Galvan, played all but two minutes in a conference match up victory against East Texas Baptist this week. Galvan scored 19 points, knocking down five three pointers and bringing in four rebounds. Galvan led all scorers for the game.
Jacqueline Berry averaged 12 points and five rebounds over two games as Hardin-Simmons split the weekend 1–1. She has helped lead the Cowgirls to a 17–4 overall record and 3–1 mark in conference play, and is averaging 15.5 points per game this season.
Anna Beamsderfer of East Texas Baptist scored 16 points and secured six rebounds in a conference match up against Mary Hardin-Baylor on Saturday. Beamsderfer led the Tigers in scoring, and shot 54% in 28 minutes of play.
