RICHARDSON, Texas –– Two-time defending American Southwest Conference champion Hardin-Simmons completed a perfect 16-0 run through league competition to win the West Division title and earn the right to host the 2012 ASC Volleyball Championship Tournament on Nov. 1-3 at Mabee Complex in Abilene, Texas.
The entire six-team, double elimination event – being played for a 15th-straight year – will be available for fans through free video and live statistics. All links can be found on HSU’s athletic page (www.hsuathletics.com) and the conference’s Tournament Central page on (www.ASCsports.org).
 
Head coach Sabrina Bingham’s Cowgirls (26-3) will receive a first-round bye as a division champion. HSU enters the tournament on a 22-match winning streak. The Cowgirls, who have won five West titles, also raised the conference trophy in 2006. Two-time ASC champion Texas Lutheran (15-11) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the West Division. Schreiner (12-13) clinched the division’s third and final spot and will be making its first appearance since 1999.
 
Texas-Dallas (24-5) went 14-2 in league play to win its seventh consecutive East Division title and will be division’s top seed. Head coach Marci Sanders’ Comets, who won back-to-back conference titles in 2008-09, will also receive a first-round bye. Three-time ASC champion East Texas Baptist (17-10) wrapped up the No. 2 seed in the division. Mary Hardin-Baylor (20-6), which won the league’s inaugural tournament in 1998, clinched the East’s third and final spot.
 
Thursday’s matchups will be Texas Lutheran against Mary Hardin-Baylor in the first round at noon, with the winner facing Texas-Dallas at 5 p.m. East Texas Baptist and Schreiner will square off in first-round action at 2:30 p.m., with the victor getting host Hardin-Simmons at 7:30 p.m. Play resumes on Friday at noon and concludes on Saturday with the championship match at 3 p.m., with an if-needed tilt following.
 
The ASC tournament winner earns an automatic berth in the NCAA Division III Women’s Volleyball Championship.
 
NOTES: Admission: $5 for adults, $3 for students/children/seniors each day. Under age 6 will be admitted for no charge. No complimentary admission passes will be accepted . . . Official tournament long-sleeved t-shirts are $15, while official tournament programs will be $2.. . . . Returning ASC all-tournament selections from last year are senior outside hitter Madison Reyes and junior outside hitter Christine Sas of Hardin-Simmons, and Texas-Dallas senior outside hitter Dana Hilzendager. Reyes was the most valuable player. Sas was also honored at the 2010 tourney, while Hilzendager was selected to the team at the 2009 event. . . . The ASC volleyball tournament’s hosting rights rotate by division each year. . . . .This is the first year that Hardin-Simmons will serve as host. . . . .The West Division and East Division are tied 7-7 for all-time ASC titles won through a tournament.
