ALPINE, Texas – Sul Ross State University named Marquis Muse as the first head coach of the Lobo women’s soccer program as the team enters its inaugural season in 2015.

Muse was a standout college soccer player and has experience at the high school, collegiate and professional levels. A native of Dallas, Texas, Muse played football and soccer at Kimball High School in the Dallas area and was the first student-athlete from KHS to earn a scholarship to play collegiate soccer.

"Marquis has experience at multiple levels of soccer, making him well rounded in the sport," said Sul Ross State Athletic Director Bobby Mesker. "His excitement for this opportunity makes us all anticipate our first season of women's soccer here at Sul Ross State."

Muse began his collegiate soccer career as a midfielder at Oral Roberts University before transferring to Midwestern State University where he played his final two seasons, completing his career in 2003. He earned All-Conference honors in both seasons at ORU, and again as a senior at Midwestern State.

After completing his collegiate career, Muse played professional soccer for FC Dallas of Major League Soccer for five years. He also began his coaching career, coaching soccer at Burkburnett High School in the Wichita Falls, TX area and then coaching boys' soccer for seven years at Flower Mound HS.

"I'd like to thank Athletic Director, Bobby Mesker, and Vice President, Mr. Worley, for giving me the opportunity to lead the women's program at Sul Ross State," said Muse. "I know there will be challenges starting a program in a tough soccer conference, but, as a team, we will strive to set standards as a program, and establish ourselves in the conference."

Lobo soccer players will report for preseason drills in August, and the season opener, an exhibition match against Western Texas College, is scheduled to be played at home on Saturday afternoon, September 5.

Sul Ross State is scheduled to play 15 regular season matches, including six more at home against ASC opponents, with the last match of the season scheduled on the road at the end of October.
