KERRVILLE, Texas - The Concordia University Texas men's golf team overcame a 17-stroke deficit after the opening round to claim its first ASC championship in men's golf.

The Tornados finished Tuesday with a 283 (-5) to end the 54-hole tournament with a 868 (300-285-283; 4) led by freshman Seger Howell who carded a three-round 210 (75-68-67) to claim medalist honors. Concordia Texas' 54-hole total of 868 is the second lowest recorded for a team champion in the ASC event.

The Tornados were eight-under through the final two rounds to surpass runner-up UT Tyler (283-296-293-872, 8) and third-place Mary Hardin-Baylor (298-284-295-877, 13) for the ASC title and automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Golf Championship at Midvale Country Club in Rochester, N.Y., on May 10.

LeTourneau University (301-301-298-900), University of Texas at Dallas (296-300-306-902) and Hardin-Simmons University (300-301-303-904) completed ASC Championship Tournament play in fourth, fifth and sixth place, respectively. Howard Payne (320-298-314-932) and Louisiana College (320-333-320-973) completed the tournament field.

The conference champions were paced by Howell who carded a 67 in the final round to finish as the individual medalist (75-68-67-210, -6). Howell's six-under is the lowest individual score since Tornado alum Jack Cersosimo won the event last year at 11-under. Howell bested UMHB's Mats Heien by two strokes (73-67-72-212) for top individual honors.

Blake Trahan of Texas-Dallas shot a one-under 215 (70-70-75) to place third. Texas-Tyler's Buddy Hallman (70-74-72-216) and Alex Trivanovich (69-74-73-216), and Nick Ratliff of Concordia Texas (76-69-71-216) all finished even to tie for fourth-place.
