2022 MEN'S SOCCER CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
RICHARDSON, Texas – The 2022 American Southwest Conference Men's Soccer Championship Tournament has been set after the final regular season games were completed on Saturday, October 29.
Mary Hardin-Baylor earned the 2022 ASC Men's Soccer Regular Season Championship with 22 points. Since UMHB women's soccer team also claimed the ASC Regular Season Title and it is an even year, the women's top seed will host, while the number two seed for the men's bracket gets to host the semifinal and final rounds. In this case it would be Concordia Texas, which due to available facilities will have the final rounds at NCAA Division II St. Edwards.
The winner of the ASC Men's Soccer Tournament earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III National Championship.
The No. 1 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor (11-2-2) had gone 10 straight matches without a loss before dropping the regular season final to Concordia Texas. UMHB has been receiving votes in the United Soccer Coaches and D3soccer.com polls and is second in the NCAA Division III Region X rankings. The Cru received a first-round bye and will play the winner of match one at 11 a.m. on Nov. 3. This marks the 16
th appearance for UMHB in the tournament 13
th straight year.
The No. 2 seed Concordia Texas (10-3-3) ended the regular season with a home win over top-seeded Mary Hardin-Baylor to pull within a point of first with 21. The Tornados did a lot of damage on offense, outscoring opponents in conference play, 26-9, and featured five matches they scored three or more goals. Concordia won the 2021 ASC Men's Soccer Championship after defeating Hardin-Simmons in penalty kicks (4-3). This is the eighth straight appearance for CTX.
The No. 3 seed Hardin-Simmons (6-8-3) finished the campaign with a high-scoring 4-3 shootout to UT Dallas but held the edge in points with 15 thanks to a 5-4 conference mark. It was a tough stretch to finish the season, as the Cowboys went 1-3 but all opponents are in the tournament. HSU will host a quarterfinal round on Tuesday against LeTourneau at 7 p.m. The Cowboys were saddled with that tough loss in PKs last championship game. Hardin-Simmons will make its conference-leading 24
th appearance and has a stretch dating back to 2003.
The No. 4 seed UT Dallas (8-5-4) earned a big win to finish the regular season as that result propelled the team to the fourth seed and a chance to host on Tuesday night. The Comets picked up wins the final two games this week and went 3-1-1 down the stretch. UT Dallas plays Ozarks at 7 p.m. on Tuesday. The Comets rank second in the conference for tournament appearances with 20 and add to it with 22. They also rank second all-time in the league for most conference tournament wins (19).
The No. 5 seed Ozarks (10-4-5) finished with 12 points to end the season outright in this spot and will play on the road Tuesday in Richardson. The Eagles were one-of-three teams to eclipse 10 wins, but posted three wins, losses, and ties over conference play. Since a four-game winning streak that included two conference wins, the Eagles went 1-3-3. They concluded the season with a tie at McMurry. Ozarks will make its 10
th straight tournament appearance and is making its 20
th appearance to give the conference three teams with that many. Ozarks did win the 2020-21 Championship during the COVID-19 season.
The No. 6 seed LeTourneau (7-6-4) clinched the final seed in the final game of the regular season. The YellowJackets blanked Howard Payne 2-0 and won their third straight to polish off a stunning run that gave them 11 points. That tied LeTourneau and Howard Payne in points and that head-to-head result broke the tie. LeTourneau is at Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday. This marks the programs eighth tournament appearance all-time fourth in past five seasons.
