Durden Claims UMHB Fall Invitational By Winning 3-Way Tiebreaker; Kmiecik Posts Best ASC Score Of The Week

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK – Tyler Durden, Fr., UT Dallas
UT Dallas freshman Tyler Durden (Austin, Texas) won a two-hole, three-player playoff to take medalist honors at the UMHB Fall Invitational at Sammons Golf Course. Durden tied for the lead with a 67, 70 for 137 (-3 Par). As a team, Durden’s effort helped #25 UT Dallas claim second with a 561.
 
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK – Sarah Kmiecik, Jr., Mary Hardin-Baylor
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Sarah Kmiecik (Houston, Texas) led the Cru with a 145 (70, 75) at the MCC Women’s Intercollegiate in Montgomery, Ala. Kmiecik took eighth individually and was the leader on a UMHB team that was seventh out of 15 schools. This is her second time this fall to be named Golfer of the Week for the ASC.

MEN’S GOLF
East Texas Baptist sophomore Kip Childress (Sulphur Springs, Texas) finished in a three-way tie for the top score at the UMHB Fall Invitational with a 68, 69 for 137 (-3). Childress helped lead the Tigers to a first place finish as a team with a 556 (277, 279).  
 
Howard Payne graduate student Kyle Anderson (Pearland, Texas) tied for the top score of 137 at the UMHB Fall Invitational, which was aided by a tournament low-round score of 66. His score stood out as HPU came in eighth as a team with a 588.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Darian Ruiz (Pflugerville, Texas) tied his teammate sophomore Mathis Rollin (Rockland, Ontario) with a 139 and was part of a four-way tie for sixth. The duo carded an identical 70 and 69 in the first and second rounds.
 
LeTourneau sophomore Reed Gesse (Tyler, Texas) carded a 139 with a 71, 68 to finish as part of the quartet in sixth. His score lifted the YellowJackets to fourth as a team with 566.  
 
Concordia Texas graduate student Travis Skorheim (Houston, Texas) scored a 141 (70, 71) and tied for 11th at the UMHB Fall Invitational. His effort helped the Tornados notch seventh as a team.
 
McMurry sophomore John Monson (Brownwood, Texas) finished with a 148 (79, 69) at the UMHB Fall Invitational. He rallied with a 69 in the second round for third lowest score in the round and of the tournament.
 
WOMEN’S GOLF
UC Santa Cruz senior Gillian Mendoza (Rowland Heights, Calif.) posted a 160 (77, 83) for 24th individually to lead the Banana Slugs at the Williams Golf Championship in Williamstown, Mass. Three individuals competed for UCSC, as it made its first trip to the Northeast since 2013 in the regular season.
 
LeTourneau sophomore Macy Rutland (Gladewater, Texas) secured the top ASC score at the Jacksonville College Classic with a 161 (76, 85) that was enough for a three-way tie for second. It helped the YellowJackets finish third as a team.
 
East Texas Baptist graduate student Emily Watson (Canton, Texas) scored a 165 (81, 84) at the Jacksonville College Classic and tied fifth. The Tigers came in fourth place as a team.
 
Concordia Texas freshman Sophia Padilla (Spring Branch, Texas) posted a 154 to tie for 28th at the MCC Women’s Intercollegiate. She posted the best score on the Tornados, who finished 12th as a team.
 
UP NEXT
On October 3-4, six conference schools on both men’s and women’s golf will compete at the Tempest Intercollegiate in Gladewater, Texas. LeTourneau is the host of the competition at Tempest Golf Club and will join Hardin-Simmons, East Texas Baptist, Concordia Texas, UT Dallas, and McMurry for the event.
