2023 MEN’S BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP CENTRAL
RICHARDSON, Texas – 2023 American Southwest Conference Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament bracket was finalized following the completion of regular season games today (Feb. 18).
Mary Hardin-Baylor won the ASC regular season title and top seed to host the semifinal and championship rounds next Friday and Saturday (Feb. 24, 25). Quarterfinal games will be hosted by No. 3 seed
East Texas Baptist and No. 4 seed
Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday (Feb. 21).
No. 1 seed Mary Hardin-Baylor (21-4, 16-2 ASC) rattled off 14 straight wins to claim a first-round bye and the regular season title. The Cru won the 2022 ASC championship defeating LeTourneau, 99-82, to claim their third ASC title. UMHB advanced to the NCAA Division III Elite 8 and fell 87-84 in overtime to Elmhurst. This will be UMHB’s ASC-leading 23rd tournament appearance.
No. 2 seed UT Dallas (20-5, 15-3 ASC) earned a first-round bye and advance to play in the semifinal matchup against the winner of East Texas Baptist and LeTourneau. The Comets advanced to the semifinals a season ago, falling to Mary Hardin-Baylor. UTD is making its 20th ASC tournament appearance and holds four ASC titles.
No. 3 seed East Texas Baptist (20-5, 14-4 ASC) hosts LeTourneau in the quarterfinal round Tuesday. This will be the 16th appearance for the Tigers and ninth in the past 10 seasons. The Tigers have one championship in their history, which occurred in 2015.
No. 4 seed Hardin-Simmons (17-8, 12-6 ASC) hosts Concordia Texas in the quarterfinal round on Tuesday. HSU is appearing for the 16th time in an ASC tournament and for the fifth time in a row. Its previous string of seven appearances from 2011-17 were capped by two men’s basketball titles in 2016 and 2017.
No. 5 seed Concordia Texas (13-11, 10-8 ASC) will play Hardin-Simmons in a first-round matchup on Tuesday. This is the 16th tournament appearance for the Tornados, who ran their streak of qualifying ran to 11. The start of that spurt in 2013 resulted in an ASC title that year.
No. 6 seed LeTourneau (12-13, 9-9 ASC) plays a quarterfinal game at East Texas Baptist on Tuesday. The YellowJackets are making its 11th tournament appearance and eighth in a row. LeTourneau earned its first title in 2020 and have played for the title two of the past three seasons, and was the 2022 runner-up.
The winner of the ASC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament is the conference champion and earns an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.
