Anderson, Mendoza named ASC Golfers of the Week

MEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK – Kyle Anderson, Gr., Howard Payne
Howard Payne graduate student Kyle Anderson (Pearland, Texas) led the Yellow Jackets to the best tournament showing this season. Anderson tied for second with a 71-57=146 score. He led the Par 3 scoring with a +1 (3.13) and it was his fourth top ten finish of the season. He also added one of the rare Eagles scored. Anderson helped the Yellow Jackets take third place as a team, which was the best finish among five ASC teams.
 
WOMEN’S GOLFER OF THE WEEK – Gillian Mendoza, Sr., UC Santa Cruz
UC Santa Cruz senior Gillian Mendoza (Rowland Heights, Calif.) headlined the Banana Slugs over three rounds at the Rhodes Invitational at Tunica National this week. Mendoza earned fourth with a 73-81-81=235 in the deep field of golfers. Her 73 in the opening 18 holes was the lowest of any round among competitors and she tallied a tournament best nine birdies. Mendoza finished one stroke shy of third, three of second, and five of first. That trio led a contingent of Rhodes College players, who won the tournament. UC Santa Cruz would come in second.

MEN’S GOLF
Concordia Texas freshman Quade Woods (New Braunfels, Texas) led the Tornados with a 73-74=147 at the Linda Lowery Invitational. Woods shot +3 over Par to tie for fifth and was part of a Concordia Texas squad that led in the team stats for Par 3s, Par 4s, and Pars. CTX finished fourth and was second among ASC teams.
 
LeTourneau senior Bryson Thurston (Montgomery, Texas) led his team to ninth individually with a 75-75=150 score at the Linda Lowery Invitational. He shot six over Par and was able to lead his team to a fifth place finish and third among ASC teams.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor sophomore Harrison Jaeger (Austin, Texas) was the top performer for the Cru in one completed round at the Wynlakes Intercollegiate. After weather canceled day one, Jaeger shot +2 par with a 74 to tie for 29th. He helped the Cru to a 10th place finish as a team and sank one of the three Eagles.
 
McMurry junior Warren Taylor (Tahoka, Texas) tied for 13th at the Linda Lowery Invitational. He led the War Hawks with a score of 75-78=153.
 
WOMEN’S GOLF
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Sarah Kmiecik (Houston, Texas) carded the second lowest two-round score at the Linda Lowery Invitational. She finished six over Par and was a stroke behind the winner from St. Thomas. Kmiecik recorded a 78-72=150 to take second and lifted the Cru to a second place team finish.
 
Concordia Texas sophomore Emma Finger (Boerne, Texas) improved in her second round score to post a 78-73=151 and complete the top three scores at the Linda Lowery Invitational. Finger was two strokes off the winning total and led all players on Par 4s. The Tornados took third as a team.
 
UT Dallas senior Karen Lee (Southlake, Texas) posted the lowest round score of the tournament with a 70 in the final time through 18 holes. Lee carded an 83-70=153 to finish fifth individually. Her finish gave the player standings five places separated by one shot in each place. Her efforts propelled the Comets to win the tournament with a 625.  
 
LeTourneau freshman Isabella Ferreira (Plano, Texas) shot +16 Par to finish 10th in the standings and lead the Yellow Jackets at the Linda Lowery Invitational. She carded an 83-77=160 and helped LeTourneau finish fifth as a team.
 
UP NEXT
Two major tournaments highlight the docket next week with both on April 3-4. East Texas Baptist and UT Dallas will be at the DBU Classic in Denton, Texas at Wildhorse Golf Club at Robson Ranch. Meanwhile, Concordia Texas, Howard Payne, and McMurry will compete at the West Regional Invitational hosted by Southwestern in Georgetown, Texas, at Berry Creek Country Club.
