UT Dallas, UMHB's Kmiecik qualify for NCAA DIII Championship

NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship selections
 
RICHARDSON, Texas – UT Dallas and Sarah Kmiecik from Mary Hardin-Baylor qualified for the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship, announced by the NCAA Division III women’s golf committee on Monday evening. The championships will be held May 9-12 at Mission Inn Resort & Club in Howey-in-the-Hills, Florida. Oglethorpe and Greater Orlando Sports Commission will serve as hosts.
 
The championships will consist of both team and individual competition conducted concurrently. After 54 holes of competition, the field will be cut to the top 15 teams and top six individuals not on one of those teams playing the final round.
 
The Comets were awarded automatic qualification for winning their second title in three years at Nutcracker Golf Club on April 23. UT Dallas shot a 312-299-303=914 in that winning effort. UT Dallas is seeded number 10 out of 29 teams. The Comets’ other trip to the NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship was at Forest Akers Golf Course on the campus of Michigan State. UTD came in 15th as a team and has Karen Alvarez and Maddy Vilven from that experience. Alvarez and Karen Lee lead this year’s team as ASC Co-Golfers of the Year and top two finishes at the conference tournament.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Sarah Kmiecik earned a spot as one of the six individuals to qualify and is seeded number four. Kmiecik finished third at the ASC Championship with a 227. Kmiecik finished on the ASC All-Tournament Team. At the 2022 NCAA Division III Women’s Golf Championship, Kmiecik carded a +17 to tie for 33rd and lead the Cru to a 14th finish.
