Maddox, Croft, Flores, Hoelscher lead 2023 ASC Awards

 
RICHARDSON, Texas – East Texas Baptist junior shortstop Tristen Maddox was named Player of the Year, while there was a trio selected for Pitcher of the Year to highlight the 2023 American Southwest Conference Softball All-Conference teams and awards as voted on by the league coaches. East Texas Baptist senior right-handed pitcher Ashley Croft, Mary Hardin-Baylor senior right-handed pitcher Kami Flores, and UT Dallas senior left-handed pitcher Emilie Hoelscher were Tri-Pitcher of the Year.
 
Maddox leads the ASC in runs scored (49), hits (63), RBI (45), doubles (16) and home runs (8), while producing a slash line of .438/.715/.529 on the campaign.
 
Croft paced the conference in wins with 19, was fourth in earned run average with a 1.52, and third in opposing batting average with a .205-clip. She logged 110.1 innings and struck out 58 for the Tigers. She was 2-0 in the ASC Softball Championship Tournament.
 
Flores tied second in the league with 15 wins and fifth in innings pitched with 120.2. She notched a 1.80 earned run average for fifth in the ASC and held opponents to a .224 batting average which was sixth.
 
Hoelscher led the Comets staff this season and was tops in the league with strikeouts with 151. She also finished top three in the conference for total innings pitched with 127.2. Her 13 wins were the third highest amount in the league.
 
Hardin-Simmons first baseman Ella Salinas was selected Freshman of the Year, as she had a .352 batting average, with 43 hits, 12 doubles, three home runs, and 41 RBI. She also scored 23 runs and reached base via a walk 10 times and 15 hit by pitches, which led the ASC.
 
LeTourneau senior pitcher/first baseman Murphy Williams earned Newcomer of the Year. She logged 40 hits with eight doubles and tied for the second most home runs with six. Her 31 RBI are also top 10 in the league. She tossed 125 innings in the circle, which was fourth in the ASC. She notched a 2.74 earned run average, is third in the ASC in strikeouts with 103, and was tied for third most wins with 13.
 
Hardin-Simmons junior right-handed pitcher Aubrianna Salazar was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. Mary Hardin-Baylor claimed Coaching Staff of the Year. Head Coach Melissa Mojica and assistant coach Leah Guest guided the Cru to their first ASC regular season title and runner-up in the 2023 ASC Softball Championship. UMHB notched a 32-12 record and will host a NCAA Division III Softball Championship Regional after receiving an at-large berth.
 
Sul Ross State senior catcher Annika Canaba earned her fourth all-conference award to lead all selections.
