BROWNWOOD, Texas –
Mia Gaboriau secured Golfer of the Year and Newcomer of the Year to headline the 2024 American Southwest Conference Women’s Golf awards and all-conference teams, announced Tuesday following the championship. All voting was done by the ASC Head Women’s Golf Coaches, except for Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, which was completed by student-athletes during the tournament.
Gaboriau emerged on the scene in the fall 2023 season, as she captured three ASC Golfer of the Week awards through a six-week span. Heading into the conference championship, Gaboriau ranked No. 29 nationally and was No. 16 regionally ranked with a scoring average of 74.2. She also had one tournament win and four top-three finishes. At the ASC Championship, Gaboriau finished eighth with her final round being her best performance of the tournament with a 73. She was part of a team-record setting tournament that saw UT Dallas win its third ASC Championship and notch the lowest three-round championship score with an 894.
Mary Hardin-Baylor
Camryn Kiser earned Freshman of the Year. She ranks No. 58 regionally and is averaging a 79.1 score across 20 rounds. Kiser Tied ninth in the ASC Championship with a 231 and had a low-round two score of 71 amongst all competitors. Her effort has supported a No. 18 nationally ranked UMHB squad that rallied to close the gap on the final day of the ASC Championship with a second-place finish.
Kiser’s teammate
Avery Hill was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
UT Dallas second-year head coach
Cole Sondergoth earned his second ASC Coach of the Year honor. It is his second accolade in as many years to match his team ASC Championships and individual medalist winners he has guided to. In addition, Sondergoth has his team prepared for another National Women’s Golf Championship Tournament appearance and has had his squad nationally ranked in the top 25 all season.
Nine golfers were named to ASC All-Conference multiple times. This includes four-time selection Sarah Kmiecik from Mary Hardin-Baylor.
