Smith headlines 2025 ASC Men's Tennis Awards

DALLAS, Texas – Hardin-Simmons sophomore Payne Smith was named Most Valuable Players to headline the 2025 American Southwest Conference Men’s Tennis Awards, released Wednesday.
 
Hardin-Simmons Payne Smith went undefeated in conference action in flight one singles. He totaled nine singles wins overall and seven doubles wins split between flight 1 and flight 2. Smith helped the Cowboys to a Regular Season Champion title as the team went 4-0 in ASC action. 
 
East Texas Baptist Jaco Synman and Mary Hardin-Baylor Fernando Andrade were named Co-Newcomer of the Year. Synman went 8-4 with all eight wins at Flight 2 singles, including a pair of conference wins. Andrade went undefeated in conference play at Flight 4 singles while totaling 11 wins overall. He also earned eight doubles wins, including a 3-1 ASC record at line two doubles.
 
East Texas Baptist Baptiste Berthier was the Freshman of the Year after a spectacular campaign. He held a 16-1 overall record this spring playing singles lines 3-6 and all doubles flights. Berthier totaled 12 singles wins and four doubles wins with his only singles loss to ranked Trinity.
 
Hardin-Simmons Head Coach Shane Williford was named ASC Coach of the Year after a great season for the Cowboys. He guided his team to nine wins and won the ASC Regular Season Champion title going 4-0 in conference play.
