AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER OF THE WEEK – Alyssa Lusk, Fr., OF, Hardin-Simmons

Hardin-Simmons freshman Alyssa Lusk had standout day at the plate in two Cowgirl wins over Huston-Tillotson on Tuesday. In game one Lusk went 1 for 1, where she pinch-hit in her solo appearance at the plate. Lusk continued her momentum in game two, where she went 5 for 5 with four RBI. Lusk also had two stolen bases and two runs scored in the 16-4 Hardin-Simmons victory. 

Lusk helped the Hardin-Simmons set the school records for hits in a game (24) and stolen bases in a game (11). The Cowgirls will return to action on Tuesday, February 17 at McMurry.
 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Avery Holland, Jr., P, East Texas Baptist

Avery Holland of East Texas Baptist pitched a six-inning shutout over No. 14 Belhaven University, allowing just three hits while striking out six. She retired the side in the fourth inning and recorded multiple strikeouts in both the first and sixth frames. No runner advanced past second base during her time in the circle.

Holland’s performance helped propel East Texas Baptist University to an 8-0 victory in game one and a 1-0 win in game two of the series. The Tigers will travel to Georgetown to face Willamette University on Saturday, February 28 at 12:00 and 2:00 P.M. 


OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES

HITTERS

East Texas Baptist catcher, Piper Morton had a career series vs. No. 14 Belhaven, hitting .833 with a double, a home run, two RBI, and a 1.500 slugging percentage. In the 8-0 six-inning win in game one, Morton went 4-for-4 with two RBI, two runs scored, and a home run. She followed that by going 1-for-2 with a double and a walk in game two.

Shorey Nguyen, a 2026 ASC Player to Watch for the Cru went 4 for 8 against Southwestern last week, adding four runs scored and four RBI. She drove in the game-winning run in game one, scoring two runs off a double for the 9-7 win. She added two more RBI in game two, continuing as a consistent offensive threat for UMHB.

PITCHERS

Hardin-Simmons pitcher Gabby Montanez earned the game one win at Huston-Tillotson, throwing 3.2 innings while facing 16 batters. She allowed just three hits and one earned run while striking out two in the 14-1 Cowgirl victory.
