PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Ben Phillip, Sr., G, Howard Payne

Ben Phillip of Howard Payne has earned back-to-back ASC Player of the Week honors after recording his second consecutive 30-point performance. Phillip poured in 36 points on 57 percent shooting from the field, knocking down eight three-pointers in the contest. He also added eight rebounds and was perfect at the free-throw line, converting both attempts. The senior has been a steady force for the Yellow Jackets all season, averaging 15.0 points per game.

Howard Payne will face No. 1 seed Hardin-Simmons in game two of the ASC Men’s Basketball Championship Tournament on Friday, February 27 at 7:30 p.m.



OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES

Zach Engels of Mary Hardin-Baylor closed out a dominant ASC regular season with a double-double against Howard Payne, recording 16 points and 10 rebounds in the win. He shot 6-11 from the field and added four assists to help the Crusaders secure a share of the regular-season championship.

Chris Bryant led Hardin-Simmons to the No. 1 overall seed in the ASC Tournament with a win over East Texas Baptist on Saturday. Bryant finished with 18 points, six rebounds, four assists, two steals, and one block in a complete all-around performance. He currently ranks fifth in the ASC in scoring, averaging 15.2 points per game.

Shad Levy of East Texas Baptist posted a career-high 25 points in ETBU’s regular-season finale against Hardin-Simmons. Levy shot 50 percent from the field (8-16), including three three-pointers, and went 6-7 from the free-throw line. The Tigers will face Mary Hardin-Baylor in game one of the ASC Men's Basketball Championship Tournament on Friday at 5:00 p.m.
