New Braunfels, Texas - Mary Hardin-Baylor guard Hudson Johnson was named the 2025-26 American Southwest Conference Player of the Year announced by the league office on Thursday (March 5). ASC All-Conference awards are voted on by head coaches and sports information directors from each member school.
The postseason awards include Player of the Year, Defensive Player of the Year, Newcomer of the Year, Freshman of the Year, Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year, and Coach of the Year. In addition to the individual honors, five-player First and Second All-Conference Teams are selected along with All-Defensive and All-Freshman teams.
Hudson Johnson headlines this year's awards after an impressive showing in the 2025-26 season, capped off by a regular season and conference tournament championship for Mary Hardin-Baylor. Johnson averaged 19.8 points per game, and ranked first in the conference in 3-PT field goals per game (2.7). Johnson also ranks in the top five in several statistical categories including field goal percentage (.430), free throw percentage (.831), and assists (3.0). Johnson is a three time ASC All-Conference selection.
For the second year in a row, Armonie Ramey is the ASC Defensive Player of the Year. Ramey leads the conference in steals totaling 69 on the year, at an average of 3.1 per game. He also averaged 6.3 rebounds per game on the season.
Elijah Lawrence was named the Newcomer of the Year. Lawrence helped Mary Hardin-Baylor to a conference championship averaging 12.4 points per game. Lawrence started all games for the Cru this season, bringing in 81 total assists.
Jared Cox of Hardin-Simmons and Antone Stewart IV of East Texas Baptist both earned a share of the Freshman of the Year honors. Cox played over 100 minutes for the Cowboys and recorded a season-high 13 points and nine rebounds at Schreiner in early January.
Stewart had a solid season for the Tigers shooting over 55 percent from the field. His career-high came at Howard Payne where he put up 10 points, at 4-for-4 from the field.
Hardin-Simmons junior Silas Davis was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
For the second year in a row, Matt Brackett has been named ASC Coach of the Year. Coach Brackett led Hardin-Simmons to a regular-season championship along with a showing in the ASC Men’s Basketball Championship game. Hardin-Simmons finished the conference season with a 5-1 record. Coach Brackett was named Coach of the Year in 2025 after leading Hardin-Simmons to an American Southwest Conference title and the Sweet 16 of the NCAA Tournament.
Four student-athletes that were named to an All-Conference team were repeat selections. Hudson Johnson and Armonie Ramey earned their third selection, while Chris Bryant and Michael Roberts earned their second selection.
