AMERICAN SOUTHWEST CONFERENCE SOFTBALL PLAYERS OF THE WEEK

HITTER OF THE WEEK – Emily Jacobs, Jr., OF, Hardin-Simmons
Emily Jacobs of Hardin-Simmons led the Cowgirls to a 4-1 record last week, totaling nine RBIs across five games. She finished 6-for-16 at the plate, batting .333 with two doubles and a home run, while scoring four runs.

In a 9-5 win at McMurry, Jacobs delivered a pivotal three-run home run in the third inning to give HSU the lead, finishing 2-for-4 at the plate. She added an RBI double in a 10-5 win over Centenary and drove in four runs in a 9-0 victory over Centenary in the final game of the series. Jacobs also recorded an RBI in an 11-2 win over Belhaven, capping a strong all-around offensive week.
 

PITCHER OF THE WEEK – Akaysia Grogan, Sr., P, Hardin-Simmons
Senior pitcher Akaysia Grogan of Hardin-Simmons earned three wins last week against McMurry, Belhaven, and Centenary (La.). Grogan threw 19.0 innings, striking out 18 batters while holding opponents to a .118 batting average. In a 9-0 shutout of Centenary, Grogan tossed five innings, allowing just two hits and striking out seven. She surrendered only four earned runs across her three appearances.

Hardin-Simmons is off to a 6-3 start this season and will face Arlington Baptist in a Tuesday doubleheader.


OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES

HITTERS
Alyssa Orozco of Howard Payne University went 2-for-3 at the plate for a .667 average in a close 9-6 loss to Dallas Christian College. Orozco recorded two RBIs, two runs scored, and a walk in the contest.


PITCHERS
Howard Payne’s Destiny Sanchez posted a strong outing against Dallas Christian College. In 2.2 innings of work, Sanchez allowed one hit and two runs while striking out six batters.
