MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Jaco Snyman, So., East Texas Baptist
Jaco Snyman went undefeated at 5-0 in singles and doubles last week, helping the Tigers to a 2-1 record. In Tuesday’s 5-2 victory over Ozarks, Snyman defeated Sergio Munoz at No. 2 singles, 6-3, 6-0. In the same match, he teamed with Jacob Daniell for a 6-2 win at No. 3 doubles over Haru Satomura and Archie Martyn-Smith.
Snyman continued his strong play with a No. 1 singles victory over Cameron McIver of Austin College, winning 6-1, 6-0. He also secured a No. 1 doubles win against Wyatt Fischer and Patrick Fenner to complete the undefeated week. In ETBU’s lone loss, Snyman contributed a win at No. 3 doubles, defeating Texas A&M Texarkana opponents 6-3 alongside Jacob Daniell.
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Hannah Lightner, So., Howard Payne
Hannah Lightner had a standout weekend, finishing 4-1 overall while competing at No. 1 singles and doubles. Lightner earned a straight-set victory (6-3, 6-2) in a 4-2 HPU win over LeTourneau on Saturday. She also partnered with Victoria Ramos to defeat Maddie Nichol and Chloe Tesser 6-0 in doubles play.
In a 5-2 Yellow Jacket win over the University of Dallas, Lightner added another straight-set singles victory, 6-1, 6-4. She capped off the weekend with a 6-2 doubles win over Bridget Sullivan and Avery William. Competing at the top of the lineup throughout the weekend, Lightner helped lead HPU to its first regular-season wins of the year.
OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
Amelia Anding of East Texas Baptist posted a 3-1 record across two Tiger matches against Austin College and Texas A&M Texarkana. In singles, she earned wins over Marayam Awais (Texarkana) and Ashlyn Alexander (Austin) by scores of 6-2, 6-4 and 6-2, 6-1. In doubles, Anding teamed with Alexis Strong to defeat Sadler and Elizabeth Mojica of Austin College 6-0.
Hardin-Simmons junior Payne Smith recorded two wins in the Cowboys’ 4-3 victory over Texas Wesleyan on Saturday. In doubles, he partnered with Gabriel Harris at No. 1 to defeat William Bayliss and Alejo Zurmendi 6-2. At No. 1 singles, Smith dropped the first set but battled back to win the second set 7-5 and clinched the match with a 10-5 victory in the third-set tiebreak.
