Georgetown, Texas – Jack Cersosimo won the individual crown by nine strokes to lead the Concordia University Texas men's golf team to a tie for second place at the West Region Invitational on Tuesday, Apr. 10 at Berry Creek Country Club.
The Tornados recorded its lowest team finish in school history, matched nationally-ranked Trinity with a team score of 927 and finished ahead of Mary Hardin-Baylor, which has been one of the top-25 teams in the country this season.
Cersosimo fired a 69 in the third round to finish with a total score of 212, which is also a school record by five strokes. The freshman also became the first player in program history to win two invitationals in his career. Current assistant coach Mike Goldwater previously held the individual three-round standard of 217, which he compiled at the 2010 American Southwest Conference Championships.
Austin Sholtis tied for 15th with a 234, while Sean Kenney tied for 35th with a three-round mark of 241. Zach Collier and Justin Muraida rounded out the CTX golfers with scores of 242 and 245 to place tied for 38th and tied for 42nd, respectively.
Concordia, which is among the teams receiving votes in the Golf World/Nike Golf Division III Coaches' Poll, will wait to see if it qualifies for the ASC Championships. The event will be held at the Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin, Texas on Apr. 16-17.
