UMHB Women Rally to Win Southwestern Invitational

Georgetown, TX – The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor women's golf team improved by five strokes and one very important spot in the standings on the final day as the Cru fought back to win the Southwestern University Invitational Tuesday in Georgetown. The UMHB women shot 336-331=667 to edge tournament host Southwestern University's 334-336=670 by three strokes.

Trinity University finished third with a 337-346=683, St. Mary's College finished in fourth place with a 345-342=687, Concordia Texas took fifth place with a 353-348=701, Willamette University's 361-365=726 was sixth and Texas Lutheran University rounded out the field with a 372-375=747 team total.
 
Taylor O'Rear tied for second place to post the low individual finish for the UMHB women. O'Rear carded a 79-84=163 to tie with McKenzie Weinhold of Willamette University. Kelly Gonyea tied for fourth place after shooting 84-81=165 for the Cru, Kristen Cain (87-81) and Sara Eckert (88-80) tied for eighth place with 168's, Victoria Thane shot 86-89=175 to take 18th place and Allison Holly tied for 19th place with a 92-85=177. Southwestern's Karissa Speck won the individual title after shooting 84-76=160.
 
The two-day, 36-hole event was played on a par-72, 5,808-yard layout at Berry Creek Golf Course in Georgetown. The Cru will return to action with the American Southwest Conference Championship Tournament next Monday and Tuesday at Crown Colony Country Club in Lufkin. The UMHB women are the defending ASC champions.
