TYLER, Texas -- Top seed Texas-Tyler ran out to an early big lead and cruised to an 84-69 win over No. 8 seed LeTourneau in Friday's American Southwest Conference Women's Basketball Championship Tournament quarterfinal.
 
Texas-Tyler (23-3) jumped to a 23-7 lead in the first seven minutes, highlighted by back-to-back three's by Teylor Seals. LeTourneau head coach Corey Thomaston called timeout at 12:32 to settle-down his crew and it worked, as the YellowJackets outscored the Patriots 22-19 over the next seven minutes. Texas-Tyler weathered the storm, taking a 46-36 lead into the locker room at the half.
 
LeTourneau (11-15) kept things close in the second half, getting to within 48-42 at the 15:13 mark, until UT Tyler's Jasmine Baskin hit a three, giving the Patriots a 51-42 lead. UT Tyler would go up by as many as 19 points over the remaining 15 minutes, holding on to win 84-69 over a tough LeTourneau team.
 
In the win, junior Brittany King finished with her 11th double-double of the year, scoring 18 points with 12 rebounds. Seals finished second on the team with 17 points, while senior Danai Woods finished with 13 points and a game-high six assists. She'Cara Humphrey also added 12 points in the win, while Baskin finished with nine points, going 3-of-6 from beyond the arc.
 
Ashley Fajardo (16 points) and Julencia Curtis (15 points) led LeTourneau scoring. Ashley Stephens and Ashley Reed added 10 points apiece.
 
Texas-Tyler, ranked #21 by d3hoops.com, advances to face Louisiana College in Saturday's second semifinal game (3:30 p.m.).
