MARSHALL, Texas —The third time proved to be the charm for the Concordia Texas men’s basketball team as they defeated Louisiana College in the 3 vs. 6 matchup of the ASC Championship Tournament after LC took both meetings in the regular season. Concordia shot 31-of-57 for the game and 8-of-18 from behind the arc to win 96-82.

Rashad Coleman led Concordia with 21 points, including 11-12 from the foul line, and in rebounds with seven. Coleman was joined in double figures by Andre Potts, who score 18 off the bench, Josh Sanchez with 16 and Ben Page with 10. Steve Evans led LC with 24 points and eight rebounds, and was joined in double figures by A.J. Gaines with 20 and Kevin Cottonham with 19.

During the first few minutes of the game both teams struggled to score. At the 16:57 mark it was a tie game at 4-4. A three by Terry Corprew put Concordia up 7-4, and from there Concordia led the rest of the game. Corprew’s three started a 17-4 run for the Tornadoes that gave them a commanding 21-8 lead at the 12:05 mark of the first half. Concordia dominated the rest of the half, leading by as many as 24 at 57-33. Ultimately they took a 19 point lead to the break at 57-38.

Early in the second half Concordia took their biggest lead of the game of 26 points with the score 71-45. Down 75-49 with 13:06 left, Louisiana College went on a 13-0 run to cut the deficit in half and get back in the game, with Evans scoring five of those points. Concordia would push their lead back up to 16, but LC would not give up. They continued to chip away and got within single digits, trailing by only nine at 88-79 with 2:43 to go. But Concordia closed the game strong with an 8-3 run to close out the 14 point win.

Concordia will take on the winner of the Texas Dallas vs. Hardin-Simmons matchup at 5:30 p.m. tomorrow.
