PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Zachary Engels, Sr., W, Mary Hardin-Baylor

Mary Hardin-Baylor wing Zach Engels recorded a career-high 37 points in a thrilling overtime victory over East Texas Baptist on Saturday. Engels shot 65% from the field and finished just three rebounds shy of a double-double. Along with his scoring and rebounding, he added three steals and three assists to help push the Cru to victory. This marked Engels’ eighth consecutive game scoring in double figures for UMHB.

The senior from Austin, Texas, continues to make his mark this season, averaging 15.4 points and 8.0 rebounds per game for the Cru. UMHB is currently 3–0 in conference play and will face Hardin-Simmons on Tuesday, February 10.



OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES

Michael Roberts led all East Texas Baptist scorers in an classic-conference match up that went into overtime on Saturday against Mary Hardin-Baylor. He posted a double-double with 20 points and 11 rebounds, shooting 88% from the field (missing just one shot). Roberts is averaging 17.3 points per game this season.

Tyler Williams continued his consistent season for Hardin-Simmons, scoring 17 points on 40% shooting from the field. He also added five rebounds, three assists, and four steals in HSU’s win over Howard Payne. The Cowboys are currently 3–0 in conference play and will face Mary Hardin-Baylor on Tuesday, February 10.

Ben Phillip out of Howard Payne recorded a 14-point, 10-rebound double-double in HPU’s matchup against Hardin-Simmons on Thursday. It marked his second double-double of the season, with the first coming in early January at Schreiner when he totaled 13 points and 10 rebounds.
