ASC Track & Field Titles to McMurry

ABILENE, Texas – After a five-year absence, McMurry made an impressive return to ASC Men's and Women's Track and Field Championship eligibility, winning the two 2017 team titles at the conference meets at the Hardin-Simmons Track Complex on Saturday afternoon.
In the women’s team race, McMurry totaled 283.5 points to run away from the field. Hardin-Simmons was second with 122 points and UT-Tyler was third with 120.5 points. East Texas Baptist (72), Sul Ross State (54), Concordia (46), Louisiana College (19) and the University of the Ozarks (15) rounded out the field.
On the men’s side, McMurry led the way with 224 points, UT-Tyler was second with 145 followed by Hardin-Simmons (95), East Texas Baptist (93), Sul Ross State (88), Concordia (58), Louisiana College (34) and Ozarks (11).
Sydney Tencate of Hardin-Simmons was named the Outstanding Female Track Athlete of the Championship and Whitney Simmons of UT Tyler was named the Outstanding Female Field Athlete of the Championship. Brittany Beaver of McMurry was the Outstanding Freshman and Shantel Thomas of McMurry was the high point scorer. The McMurry coaching staff was named Coaching Staff of the Year. Junior Grasyn Langley of the University of the Ozarks and senior Shelby Sparks of East Texas Baptist were voted co-reicipients of the Women's Track and Field Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
Michael Brown of McMurry was named the Outstanding Male Track Athlete of the Championship and Jermaine Stevens of Sul Ross State was named the Outstanding Male Field Athlete of the Championship. James Willingham of Louisiana College was the Outstanding Freshman and the high point scorer. The McMurry coaching staff was named Coaching Staff of the Year. Beau Billings of East Texas Baptist was named the Men's Track and Field Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year.
