ABILENE, Texas –
UT Dallas
won the 2018 American Southwest Conference Men's Cross Country Championship, its first in program history, at the ACU Cross Country Course on Saturday.
East Texas Baptist sophomore
Mack Broussard
was the indvidual medalist, winning the 8,000-meter race in a time of 26:56.30. He becomes the first Tiger to win the race.
HSU scored 50 points, placing four runners in the top 18. They held off McMurry (54), ETBU (99), Ozarks (101) and LeTourneau (105) who rounded out the top five spots.
Comet head coach
Danielle Kcholi
earned Coaching Staff of the Year for capturing the conference crown.
UTD's
Cannon Leavitt
earned Freshman of the Year honors after placing third in 27:14.47. Senior
Beau Billings
from East Texas Baptist was selected as the Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year for the second straight year. He also earned All-Conference First Team honors by placing seventh among scoring teams in 28:20.49.
Ozarks sophomore
Nathaneal Rankin
, who was the medalist in 2017, was this year's runner-up in 26:58.69. Fellow Eagle
Michael Harris
placed fourth in 27:41.21.
