Hardin-Simmons Claims Second Women's XC Title

ABILENE, Texas – Hardin-Simmons won the 2018 American Southwest Conference Women's Cross Country Championship, its second in school history and first since 2010, at the ACU Cross Country Course on Saturday.


LeTourneau junior Alexis Segura was the indvidual medalist, winning the 6,000-meter race in a time of 23:51.24. She becomes the second YellowJacket to win the ASC individual title, joining Nicole Leman in 2012.

HSU scored 56 points, placing four runners in the top 16. They held off McMurry (80), UT Dallas (84) and LeTourneau (90) for the top four team spots.

For their winning efforts, Cowgirl head coach Zach Leggett and assistant Derek Footer were named the Coaching Staff of the Year.

UMHB junior Caroline Vining was the runner-up with a time of 24:14.00 and earned Newcomer of the Year honors. Freshman of the Year went to East Texas Baptist's Almalisseth Rodriguez, who placed 11th overall with a time of 25:39.45.

Concordia Texas senior Emily Villines was selected as the Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. She also placed sixth among scoring runners with a time of 25:05.03 and earned All-ASC First Team honors for the fourth ttime, becoming just the fourth woman in conference history to do so.

Also earning First Team All-Conference honors as part of the top seven individual scorers were - Hannah Smith of Ozarks (3rd, 24:21.63), Sydney Tencate of Hardin-Simmons (4th, 24:38.32), Hollee Ratliff of UT Dallas (5th, 25:00.46) and Yadira Loera of Hardin-Simmons (7th, 25:10.19).
