UMHB Picked to Win ASC Men's Hoops Crown

RICHARDSON, Texas – Mary Hardin-Baylor has been picked to win the 2021-22 American Southwest Conference men’s basketball title, following a vote of the league's head coaches and directors of sports information, the ASC office announced Thursday.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor (16-4, 13-0 ASC) received 237 points with 19 of 22 first place votes after winning the West Division last season.
 
Hardin-Simmons (16-8, 10-5 ASC) was second with 211 points and two first place votes. The Cowboys advanced to ASC Championship Tournament Semifinals in the spring.
 
UT Dallas (9-5, 7-4 ASC) was picked to finish third with 182 points and one first place vote. They were followed by East Texas Baptist (14-8, 7-5 ASC) and defending ASC champion Ozarks (10-3, 7-3 ASC). Rounding out the poll were LeTourneau (7-4, 5-3 ASC); Concordia Texas (5-6, 4-6 ASC); Sul Ross State (9-12, 7-8 ASC); McMurry (4-15, 4-11 ASC); Belhaven (4-13, 2-12 ASC); and Howard Payne (0-18, 0-14 ASC).
 
The 2021-22 ASC Men's Basketball Watch List is composed of 32 players nominated by the head coaches and includes one all-conference selection, 20 all-division recipients and six individual award winners.
 
The 2021-22 season marks the 26th in league history. Regular season play begins Friday, November 5.
 
The three-day, eight-team, single-elimination conference tournament is slated for February 24-26 at the site of the No. 1 seed. An automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men's Basketball Championship will be on the line.
