Comets, Cowgirls Selected to Win Women's Tennis Divisions

RICHARDSON, Texas –UT Dallas and Hardin-Simmons have been picked to win the 2022 American Southwest Conference women’s tennis East and West Division titles, respectively, after a vote of the league's head coaches announced by the conference office Monday (January 24).
 
The Comets was unanimous selection with 55 points and all 11 first place votes to secure the top spot in the East. The Cowgirls collected 65 points and 10 of the 11 first place votes to lead the West Division.
 
LeTourneau was picked second in the East Division with 38 points. They were followed by East Texas Baptist (32), Ozarks (24) and Belhaven (15).

In the West, Concordia Texas was selected second with 49, followed by Mary Hardin-Baylor with 41 points and first place vote. McMurry (39), Howard Payne (23) and Sul Ross State (11) round out the poll.
 
UTD was the East Division and ASC Champion in 2021 with a 12-4 overall record and 6-0 mark in conference play. They advanced to the Second Round of the NCAA Division III Championship. HSU won the West with a 5-0 record and was the runner-up for the ASC title.
 
In addition to the preseason poll, 22 players were named to the ASC Women’s Tennis Preseason Watch List by the head coaches, including four All-Conference selections.
 
The women’s tennis season will begin on Friday, January 28. The 2021 ASC Women’s Tennis Championship is scheduled for April 28-30 and will be hosted by the East Division #1 seed.
