Mary Hardin-Baylor Selected to Repeat as ASC Men's Basketball Champion

RICHARDSON, Texas – Mary Hardin-Baylor has been selected to win the 2022-23 American Southwest Conference men’s basketball title, following a vote of the league’s head coaches and sports information directors, the ASC office released Wednesday, October 19.
 
Mary Hardin-Baylor was near unanimous by claiming 199 points and 19 of 20 first place votes after winning its third ASC Championship last season. That was the team’s first title since 2010.
 
LeTourneau came in second place with 162 points and was the runners-up in last season’s tournament.
 
Hardin-Simmons rounded out the top three spots with 153 points. UT Dallas was narrowly behind with 152 points but did grab the remaining first place vote. Completing the top half of the predicted order rankings was East Texas Baptist with 126 points.
 
Finishing the poll were Concordia Texas (85), McMurry (79), Sul Ross State (65), Ozarks (41), and Howard Payne (38).
 
The 2022-23 ASC Men’s Basketball Watch List is composed of 28 players nominated by the head coaches and includes 16 all-conference selections. Highlighting the group includes: 2021-22 ASC Player of the Year Josiah Johnson (UMHB), 2021-22 Freshman of the Year Luke Kiser (UTD), and 2021-22 Newcome of the Year Darry Moore (ETBU).
 
The 2022-23 season marks the 27th in league history. Regular season play begins November 8.
 
This season’s conference tournament will be a three-day, six-team, single-elimination slated for February 23-25. The champion will earn an automatic berth into the NCAA Division III Men’s Basketball Championship.
 
Wilson is the official basketball of the American Southwest Conference and its 10 members.
