2022 ASC Women’s Soccer Schedule
RICHARDSON, Texas –
Hardin-Simmons accumulated 17 first-place votes to grab the top spot in the 2022 American Southwest Conference preseason women’s soccer poll as voted by the head coaches and sports information directors.
The Cowgirls, who won their 24th overall and 19th straight ASC women’s soccer championship in 2021, secured 196 votes in the voting.
Mary Hardin-Baylor followed in second with 177 points and a pair of first place votes, while
Concordia Texas checked in third with 141 points.
McMurry (122) and
UT Dallas (119) were each predicted to finish in the upper half of the ASC standings at fourth and fifth, respectively.
East Texas Baptist (107),
Howard Payne (103) and
Ozarks (49) listed sixth, seventh and eighth. Tied for ninth in the preseason poll were
Sul Ross State (43/1 first-place vote) and
LeTourneau (43).
Preseason Player of the Year nods went to Mary Hardin-Baylor senior forward
Maria Rico on offense and Hardin-Simmons junior defender
Mercy Mummert on defense. The conference offensive player of the year and all-conference pick last fall, Rico tied for the league lead with 13 goals, including five game-winners, to go with five assists for the Cru. Two-time All-Conference honoree Mummert returns after leading a Hardin-Simmons defense that allowed just nine goals while posting 13 shutouts in 2021.
Twenty-eight women were named by the head coaches as Players to Watch in the 2022 season with 17 of those claiming all-conference honors a year ago.
