Golf opens 2023 Spring Season on Monday

RICHARDSON, Texas – American Southwest Conference men’s and women’s golf begins its 2023 spring season on February 27-28. Six teams open the slate with host UT Dallas at The Lidlifter in Clubs of Kingwood in Kingwood, Texas. Howard Payne, Hardin-Simmons, LeTourneau, Mary Hardin-Baylor and East Texas Baptist will also be competing.
 
Five ASC men’s golf programs were recently named in the first spring 2023 Bushnell/Golfweek Division III Coaches Poll, led by LeTourneau at No. 11 with 256 points. UT Dallas followed at No. 13 with 197 points, while East Texas Baptist was also in the top 25 at No. 24 with 31 points. Mary Hardin-Baylor and Concordia Texas were receiving votes.
 
Top individual men’s golfers in the latest Golfstat NCAA DIII rankings had UT Dallas sophomore Daniel Shofner at No. 17 and Howard Payne senior Kyle Anderson at No. 18.

The 2023 Men’s Golf Championship will be held April 28-30 at Oakwing Golf Club in Alexandria, Louisiana.
 

On the women’s side, the same four programs mentioned above will also participate in The Lidlifter hosted by UT Dallas. LeTourneau and Concordia Texas are also debuting its spring season that day at the Space City Classic in Houston, Texas.
 
In the first Women’s Golf Coaches Association (WGCA) poll released on Friday, UT Dallas highlighted the rankings from the ASC with a spot at No. 8 with 256 points. Mary Hardin-Baylor was slotted at No. 18 with 149 points, and UC Santa Cruz (7) was receiving votes.
 
UT Dallas and Mary Hardin-Baylor received higher rankings in the First Spring Golfstat NCAA Division III Women’s Top 25 Rankings at No. 5 and No. 16, respectively. UT Dallas sophomore Sophia Trevino boasted the highest ranking among ASC individuals at No. 14. UTD also has freshman Karen Lee and Karen Alvarez within the top 50. Mary Hardin-Baylor is led by junior Sarah Kmiecik at No. 26, while junior Sydney McConnell and sophomore Avery Hill are ranked among the first 60 out of 100 ranked.
