2024 ASC Championship Central
ABLIENE, Texas –
McMurry was able to compile over 300 points and cruise to the 2024 American Southwest Conference Women’s Track & Field Championships on Saturday afternoon at Elmer Gray Stadium. The War Hawks scored 317 points and captured their fourth straight ASC Championship and 16th overall. McMurry had 12 event winners to claim 120 points among those individuals and had several top performances with its depth racking up several points.
Hardin-Simmons followed in second with 166 points. LeTourneau came in third with 93 points and East Texas Baptist and UT Dallas were tight with 84 and 83 points, respectively.
LeTourneau, Hardin-Simmons, and McMurry claimed individual awards amongst its student-athletes. Haily Bass from LeTourneau was named Sportsmanship Athlete of the Year. Her teammates Victoria Wilson and Ellie Marsh were also recognized. Wilson highlighted the awards with Outstanding Field Athlete, as she won the Heptathlon with an ASC record 4,122 points. Wilson also was second team in 100m hurdles and long jump.
HSU’s Kylah Holland continued to cement herself in history with the conference, as she was Co-High Point Athlete along with Wilson. This is the second straight year Holland was selected this honor, as she won the 1,500 Meters, 5,000 Meters, and 3,000 Meter Steeplechase. Holland shattered two championship records in the 1,500 and steeplechase.
Marsh was named Outstanding Track Athlete for her victory in the 400-meter hurdles. The 1:02.80 mark was a personal record for Marsh, ASC Championship record, and ranked No. 10 in NCAA DIII. McMurry’s Brenna Stell was selected Outstanding Freshman Athlete. Her spectacular first collegiate season on pole vault was on display again as she won the event by nearly two feet.
McMurry won Coaching Staff of the Year for the fourth straight year, as Head Coach Cody Knight guided the War Hawks to another successful season. Cody Brotherton (throws), Michael McCarroll (Pole Vault and Combined Events), and Corey Koch (Interim Cross Country/Assistant Coach) were also part of the successful campaign.
Overall, the competition had five championship records broken and several repeat winners from previous championships.
