MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Sam Black, Jr., East Texas Baptist
East Texas Baptist junior
Sam Black (White River, Mpumalanga) helped ETBU blank Whitworth 7-0, and then move to 2-1 in the ASC holding off UMHB, 5-2 going 4-0 on the week at both #1 singles and doubles. He won a tiebreaker versus UMHB at #1 singles that was a difference in the 5-2 win.
WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Reika Nagai, So., UT Dallas
UT Dallas sophomore
Reika Nagai (Frisco, Texas) picked up wins at number one singles and number one doubles in a 7-0 sweep at LeTourneau. She defeated Isa Casso 7-5, 6-4 and teamed with Megan Zeng to top Casso and Elizabeth Moreau 6-4.
OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES
LeTourneau freshman
Diego Maldonado (Houston, Texas) went 2-0 in singles and 1-1 in doubles play as LeTourneau went 1-1. He won a pair of matches at the No. 5 flight in singles with wins over foes from Whitworth and UT Dallas. He and Andrew Reiman took a 6-3 win at the No. 2 spot in doubles vs. Whitworth.
UT Dallas graduate student
Travis Rafferty (San Antonio, Texas) went 1-1 at number one singles and number one doubles as the Comets defeated LeTourneau and lost to #61 SMU on the road. He defeated Zach Farris of the YellowJackets 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday and lost to Ofek Shimanov 3-6, 4-6 on Sunday. Rafferty teamed with Benjamin Dubois for a 7-6 (7-3) win at LETU and barely lost to SMU's 45th-ranked team in NCAA Division I 4-6.
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior
Fernando Andrade (San Antonio, Texas) went 3-1 on the week with a pair of wins at No. 4 single and one win in No. 2 doubles. HIs lone loss of the week came against Whitworth in No. 1 singles.
East Texas Baptist sophomore
Monique Ybarra (Palestine, Texas) went 3-1 on the week with her only loss in #1 doubles versus Whitworth. She won both of her ASC matches at #2 singles and #1 doubles vs. UMHB.
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior
Emily Higgs (San Antonio, Texas) went 3-1 on the week with one win at No. 2 Doubles and a pair of wins in at No. 6 singles. Higgs and doubles partner Kaylee Jo Alexander dropped a 6-4 decision to Whitworth before Higgs went on to earn a win at No. 6 singles. The Cru dropped a 3-4 decision to Whitworth after a UMHB withdrawal at No. 1 singles. Higgs and partner Erin Kittredge earned the Cru's lone doubles win against ETBU and she went on to win Line 6 singles, clenching the ASC win for UMHB.
