MARSHALL, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University softball team opened the NCAA DIII Softball Championship Tournament with a 13-1 run-rule win over Marymount on Thursday in Marshall.

East Texas Baptist opened the contest with a quick 3-0 lead through two innings. The Tigers’ offense exploded from there, scoring 10 runs in the third inning. Marymount got on the board in the fourth, but could only manage one run before the run-rule came in effect.

ETBU will return to action at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, May 16^th and will take on the winner of Belhaven and St. Thomas.

Pitching Decision:
McKenzie Jones earned the win for the Tigers pitching 5.0 innings allowing just one run on two hits with four strikeouts. Demusz took the loss for Marymount with seven earned runs on five hits.

Stat Leaders:
Tristen Maddox led the Tigers going 3-for-3 with an RBI. Madalyn Melton recorded two hits with two RBI while Izabella Morales contributed two RBI.
