MARSHALL, Texas – The East Texas Baptist University softball team advances to the NCAA DIII Softball Championship Tournament Regional Finals with a 13-3 win over St. Thomas (TX) on Friday in Marshall.
The Tigers were first to score, but St. Thomas tied it 1-1 in the bottom of the first frame. ETBU added five more in the second before each team added one in the fifth inning. The Tigers brought their lead to 13-2 in the top of the seventh inning with seven runs. The Celts added one more but failed to overcome the deficit.
ETBU will return to action at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 17
th and will take on the winner of Belhaven and St. Thomas. The winner of the contest will advance to the NCAA Super Regional Round.

Pitching Decision:
Avery Holland earned the win for the Tigers pitching 7.0 innings allowing just one earned run on eight hits with two strikeouts. Hughes took the loss for the Celts with six earned runs on seven hits in 1.2 innings.

Izabella Morales led ETBU with three hits and 5 RBI. Emma Bell and Haylie Stum also went 3-for-4 in the contest.
