MEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Barret Scott, Jr., Mary Hardin-Baylor
Mary Hardin-Baylor junior Barret Scott helped lead UMHB men’s tennis to a 7-0 sweep of McMurry in the season opener on Saturday in Belton. In singles play, Scott defeated Angel Ramirez (MCM) 6-0, 6-0. Scott also earned a win in doubles alongside teammate Braxton Jett, as the pair defeated Angel Ramirez and Lance Turner (MCM) 6-1.


WOMEN’S PLAYER OF THE WEEK – Monique Ybarra, Jr., East Texas Baptist
East Texas Baptist junior Monique Ybarra went 2-0 in a 4-3 regional loss to Southwestern University. She helped ETBU take a 1-0 lead after doubles with a tiebreaking 7-6 win alongside partner Fernanda Ruiz-Burkart at the No. 1 doubles position, winning the tiebreaker 7-3. At No. 1 singles, Ybarra defeated Daryl Locke 6-2, 6-2 to give ETBU a 3-0 lead. She is currently ranked #19 in singles in the West Region.

OTHER OUTSTANDING PERFORMANCES

Max Karseno opened the season against a strong Southwestern University (TX) opponent. Karseno and doubles partner Sam Black gave ETBU an early 1-0 lead after defeating Bernie Clemente and Parth Patel 6-3 in the No. 1 doubles match. Karseno then battled in the No. 5 singles match through three tiebreak sets, falling 6-7 (4-7), 7-6 (8-2), 7-6 (5-10).

Mary Hardin-Baylor freshman Avery Williams earned a 6-0 win at No. 2 doubles and followed with a 6-3, 6-0 victory at No. 2 singles as the Cru completed a 7-0 sweep over McMurry.
