Belton, TX – The American Southwest Conference will be well represented when the USA Softball National Team's “Bound 4 Beijing” tour stops at 7 p.m. on Wednesday (June 24) in Killeen, Texas. Five former University of Mary Hardin-Baylor players and two from the University of Texas at Tyler will participate in the game. UMHB head coach Kasey Blomquist and assistant coach Denise Lira (pictured on right) will coach Team Texas against the Olympic team.
The former UMHB players are first baseman Charlsie Cope, catcher Kacie Kripner, pitcher Lindsey Liles, shortstop Katina Penter and outfielder Becca Ribera. All five wrapped up their senior seasons this year. Representing Texas-Tyler will be graduated second baseman Lindsey Peters and current utility player Megan Richardson. The roster also includes players from the University of Texas, Baylor University, Sam Houston State University and Texas State University.
Graduated first baseman Sadye Hill of Hardin-Simmons played against Team USA earlier this month in front of 6,211 fans at Gateway Park in Fort Worth, Texas. Hill played on the Fort Worth Diamonds all-star team.
USA softball is currently 49-1 on its "Bound 4 Beijing" tour. The tour runs through next month before Team USA heads to Beijing to open Olympic play on August 12th.
