DODGE CITY - Former Sul Ross State football star Dominique Carson has been named Second-Team All-Champions of the Professional Indoor Football League.

Carson, the Dodge City Law running back/kick returner, receives his second honor of the season after being named the CPIFL’s Offensive Rookie of the Year.

During the Law’s inaugural season, Carson ranked third in the league with 125 all-purpose yards per game. He returned the ball 41 times for 884 yards and a touchdown. On offense, he carried the ball 113 times for 438 yards and scored 19 touchdowns.

Carson’s play on special teams and as a running back energized the Law at critical points throughout the season, according to Law head coach Sean Ponder.

“Dominique is a very exciting player to watch,” Ponder said.  “He is usually one of the fastest, if not the fastest, player on the field at any given time. Dominique lacks the size of a typical running back, but he makes up for it with speed, agility, and ferocity.”

Carson ranked 10th in the league in rushing, and tied for fourth with 14 rushing touchdowns and 1,386 all-purpose yards.

Carson graduated from Sul Ross State in 2013. During his final season with the Lobos, Carson led all NCAA Division III players with 2,368 all-purpose yards. He tied the NCAA record for touchdowns in a game when he scored eight times in a 70-65 victory at Texas Lutheran.

The Law finished the regular season with an 8-4 record and lost to the eventual champion Wichita Wild in the semifinals of the CPIFL playoffs, 33-31, on a 50-yard field goal as time expired.
