TYLER, Texas
– The No. 3 seeded Louisiana College Lady Wildcats trailed Mary Hardin-Baylor 75-67 with 2:48 to play, but stormed back to win 91-90 in overtime in game one of the American Southwest Conference Women’s Basketball Championship.
With six seconds remaining, the Lady Wildcats’ (17-7) Neka Jones hit a three-pointer, sending the game to overtime with the score tied at 80-80.
In the extra frame, the Cru (13-13) would hold the lead for the majority of the time, going up 90-86 with just :52 seconds remaining, but again, LC would fight back.
Karylon Thornton would cut the UMHB lead to just one point after hitting a jumper and converting the free throw, making the score 90-89 Cru.
After a turnover by UMHB’s Macy Moore, the Lady Wildcats’ Danisha Allison would grab an offensive rebound and hit the eventual game-winning layup with 1.5 seconds remaining.
For the game, the Cru hit 45-percent of their shots, while LC hit 40-percent, but the Lady Wildcats out-rebounded the Cru 28-20.
Four players scored in double digits for LC, led by Jones’ 26 points, while UMHB’s Taylor Tucker led all scorers with 28 in the losing effort.
Louisiana College will now faceoff against the winner of the Texas Dallas-Concordia Tx matchup at 5 p.m. on Friday.
