RICHARDSON, Texas—The University of Mary Hardin-Baylor trio of free safety Josh Kubiak, return specialist P.J. Williams and defensive tackle Elex Reed led the Crusaders to the American Southwest Conference football title and were among the recipients of the upperclass conference player of the year awards in all-conference voting announced today (Nov. 16) by the conference office on behalf of its 10 head coaches.
Kubiak (Granbury, Texas) was named Defensive Player of the Year and Williams (Rockdale, Texas) Special Teams Player of the Year. Reed (Mexia, Texas) and East Texas Baptist University defensive end Chad Glover (Whitehouse, Texas) were voted Co-Defensive Lineman of the Year.
Quarterback Ty Sellers (Brownfield, Texas) of McMurry was named Offensive Player of the Year while Texas Lutheran University offensive guard Jeremy Pawelek (Luling, Texas) was voted Offensive Lineman of the Year. The six upperclass individual award recipients are each ASC All-Conference First Team selections.
Howard Payne University defensive back Sylvester Walker (Cedar Hill, Texas) was voted ASC Freshman of the Year, and claimed ASC All-Conference Second Team honors. Mike Redwine, who guided Howard Payne to a second-place ASC finish in his first season, was chosen by his peers as ASC Coach of the Year.
