Scotty Walden Interview
MARSHALL, Texas – Three-year assistant coach Scotty Walden has been tabbed as head coach for the East Texas Baptist University football program taking over for Joshua Eargle who resigned after accepting a position at Austin Peay State University.
Walden, now one of the youngest head coaches at an NCAA football program, served as the ETBU offensive coordinator for the past three seasons and produced one of the top offenses and players in Division III each of those seasons (2013-15). A top three finalist for the American Football Coaches Association Division III Assistant Coach of the Year award, Walden crafted the top Division III passing offense in 2014 averaging 368.1 yards per game. In each of his three seasons with the Tigers, the offfense has been ranked among the top 10 in several categories.
Walden came to East Texas Baptist after one season as assistant coach at Sul Ross State University (2012).
"Coach Walden brings a passion and enthusiasm to the ETBU football program which we feel will be infectious with our players and fans," said Kent Reeves, ETBU Director of Athletics.
Eargle departs East Texas Baptist to join the Austin Peay staff as the run coordinator and offensive line coach for the NCAA Division I FCS program. Eargle coached the Tigers for three seasons (2013-15) and produced 37 All-ASC players with nine first team and 11 second team selections. Eargle's best season was 2015 when he guided ETBU to the ASC tri-championship, the program's first conference title since 2003. Eargle went 14-16 in three years, including a 7-3 mark this fall for the first winning season in 10 years.
