RICHARDSON, Texas – UT Dallas earned a its fourth straight and fifth overall American Southwest Conference title to receive the league’s automatic qualifier berth to the NCAA Division III Women’s Tennis Championship. On Monday (May 1), the Comets discovered for the third consecutive season that they will serve as the host for the opening rounds of the 2023 NCAA Division III Championship Tournament. UT Dallas will host five teams starting Friday (May 5) at UTD Tennis Courts.
The teams will play a single-elimination tournament with the first, second and third rounds played at regional sites. The United States Tennis Association, Oglethorpe, and the Greater Orlando Sports Commission will host the team championships finals, which will be held May 14-22 at USTA National Campus in Orlando.
The Comets (12-6) face No. 29 Whitman in the opening round on Friday at 12 p.m. The winner advances to face No. 2 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps (22-1) at 10 a.m. on Saturday. Also participating on the other side of the bracket are No. 3 Pomona-Pitzer (13-8) and No 16 Trinity (16-4) on Saturday at 2 p.m.
UT Dallas is 2-4 all-time in its previous four trips to the NCAA Tournament. They advanced to the Second Round last season after defeating No. 34 Linfield 5-1.
Individual championships will be announced Wednesday (May 3).
